How does hypnosis work?

Discover the secrets of Hypnotherapy right here in Cornwall

Hypnotherapy is a technique that uses deep relaxation to

provide beneficial results, effective for a huge range of issues. Suggestions made to the

unconscious mind can influence the behaviour of the conscious mind.

You are not unconscious during hypnosis, nor are you asleep, the best way to describe the feeling is that of when you are lying in bed in a morning, you do not yet have to get up, so you are lying there aware of everything that is going on around you but you have your eyes closed and are deeply and totally relaxed.

When you are in that totally relaxed hypnosis state you are then fed positive statements, helped to visualise events and ideal situations, helped to increase motivation and confidence to achieve your goals. If you are being treated to help you give up something you consider to be no good for you for example chocolate or alcohol, or stop smoking, you will usually also be given an aversion appropriate to you, so that it helps your willpower, for example you will associate the taste of cigarettes with something else that you really don't like...

There are many different techniques in hypnosis, but some of the most successful are those using visualisation. People who can close their eyes and imagine a place, a smell, a colour etc. find hypnosis an incredibly useful tool. There are also techniques for those people who find it hard to visualise things, everyone sees the world in different ways, some people are visual, some prefer sound, and some are very tactile (touchy feely people) this is why hypnosis is so useful because it can be tailored to suit your individual needs so that you get the most out of your treatment.
